Default Selection of Fume Cupboard

Our laboratory is newly set up.We conduct testing for heavy metal for our products, which are traditional medicine. We deal with a lot of acid such as acid sulfuric, acid nitric and acid hydrochloric. Can you suggest us which fume hood we should buy? An acid digestion fume hood?trace metal hume food? Or a convnetional one is sufficient?

Your question bring me to a two part answer. First of all, the best product for heavy acid work is our Protector Acid Digestion hood. Of course different acids have different effects on different materials and there might need to be minor modification depending on the acids you use. Second, our general porpuse hood the Protector Premier features a one peice liner without any steel or fasteners on the inside of the hood, it is also used in many acid applications.

Both of these product will work for heavy to moderate acid work. What chemicals are you using? Is there heat involved in your application? How often and how much acid is involved in your daily experiments?

Thanks for your reply. We use diluted nitric acid, diluted sulfuric acid and diluted hydrochloric acids. Our samples are traditional herbs. We digested the samples in the acids by two methods, which is dry ashing and wet digestion. We will put the furnace in the fume hood wherein the samples + acids are in furnace. For wet digestion, we have sample + acid in a digestion flask. The solution will be heated up to digest the sample.

The Protector Premier fume hood is ideal for your application as it has no exposed fasteners and features a one peice molded liner. The only question is the size of the furnace and if it will fit the fume hood interior. What is the overall dimensions of the furnace and at what teperature is it set for? How hot is the air around this unit?

The protector premier fume hood is a general purpose fume hood? We intend to buy a 6 feet fume hood as we need to put the hot plate and furnace in the fume hood. The temperature of furnce is around 450 oC. The operating hot plate will be around 375 oC.

Yes, the Protector Premier is one of our GP hoods. It can be used for heavy acid work. The one peice liner makes this hood very robust. My only concern is the size of the hot plate and Furnace.
